We take pride in being a riding centre that offers a wide selection of activities to suit all standards, from beginner to advanced and from tiny tots to adult riders.

Karen Joynson

Instructor

Karen Joynson BHSII & UKCC L3 Coach in Dressage, Show Jumping & Eventing. I am also a Franklin Ball Specialist trainer. I have always had a passion for teaching all levels of rider, from beginner to advanced level. I have worked at Barton End for 23 years, I love to see riders progress, with emphasis on making lessons fun & informative & getting the basics right.

I have been around horses for 43 years, riding in all disciplines. I have competed for British Dressage in the England squad, ridden in Show Hunters at the Horse of the Year Show. I love to work with young horses, having many years experience of breeding & training through the levels. I have coached many riders over the years, who have gone on to be elite level riders & trainers themselves. I like to use an easy to understand training method for both horse & rider, to bring out the very best.

Sophie Power

Instructor

Sophie started as an apprentice at The National Stud in 2007 and then completed the Diploma course in 2009. She has worked all over since, working as a groom in various disciplines including and up to Grand Prix dressage, International Eventing up to 3* and Polo.

She has competed up to Elementary in dressage (Squirrel). Binks and Sophie placed 5th at Regional Finals for the dressage team in 2020, and evented at 90 in 2021. Sophie’s hope is to take him out again but current family commitments have pushed competition goals to the side for now.

Sophie is qualified at Stage 2 to teach and keen to complete my stage 3.

Janice Partington

Instructor

Janice is a freelance riding instructor with over 25 years experience teaching riders of various levels. BHS PTT qualified, with a first class degree in psychology, and about to complete her MSC in Sport and exercise psychology.

Janice has a passion for building and developing confidence for both horse and rider. Over the years Janice has produced and competed several horses up to BE 100, developing a love of producing young horses.

Alastair Bull

Instructor

Growing up in Lancashire, Alastair was surrounded by horses. While working weekends as a groom for Lady Townley, he began his BHSAI training and gained experience riding and competing many quality horses. He feels fortunate to have been involved in the training of these noble animals, passing on his knowledge and seeing the satisfaction and rewards it brings.
Sharon Pulley
Heather Silverthorne
Growing up on my families farm in Stroud, I had many horses and ponies from a young age. I was a member of the Minchinhampton Pony Club as a child and later as a teenager moved to Stroud Pony Club to pursue my showjumping interest.

After leaving school I took on the family stables and still run a successful livery yard. I am a qualified BHSAI instructor and taught for Stroud Pony Club for many years. I particularly enjoy improving the riders confidence and helping to achieve their goal.

I have been a Sunday helper since 2012, to gain experience of working with horses. Abby and the team have been a great support over the years. I find horses fascinating and you never stop learning.
